How to get around the Isle of Man

Get around the Isle of Man

Let public transport take the strain while on the island its a regular service making it easy to get around.

You can also purchase Explorer tickets from us or upgrade to a Heritage Explorer ticket which also includes entrance to the Manx National Heritage sites.

Isle of Man Public Transport

Travel on the extensive bus network or step back in time and hop aboard the Victorian rail networks, you'll find getting around the Island easy and most importantly cost effective.

Buses

The Isle of Man has an extensive bus network - Bus Vannin – which serves the whole of the Island on a regular basis including Ronaldsway Airport and the Sea Terminal in Douglas.

A late night bus service operates on Friday and Saturday evenings which serves all major towns (this is increased during the Isle of Man TT).

Multi-journey tickets will help you travel around the Island and make the most out of your journey. Saver tickets allow unlimited travel on scheduled bus services and Explorer tickets allow unlimited travel on all scheduled railway services, the Douglas Horse Trams, and most bus services.

Heritage Explorer tickets also allow unlimited travel on all scheduled railway services, the Douglas Horse Trams and most bus services, as well as all free access to all Manx National Heritage sites.

Useful TT Information - The bus service goes around the TT course from Douglas to Ramsey when the road are open, there is no access once roads are closed. No bus service travels on the mountain section from Ramsey to Douglas, but this can be accessed via the mountain railway.

Railway

The Isle of Man boasts three heritage railways – the Manx Electric Railway, Steam Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway – which will transport you to your chosen destination in style.

Mountain Railway

The Electric railway travels from Dougals to Ramsey via Laxey, where you can also joint the Snaefel Mountain railway here.

Useful TT Information - The Electric trams are not effected by the TT course being closed. You can use the Snaefel Mountain railway from Laxey to access the mountain section of the course.

Taxi

For ease and convenience why not hail a taxi? There are taxi ranks located outside Ronaldsway Airport and the Sea Terminal and in the Island's capital Douglas.
